Freitag, 5.
Als wir
heute die Kolumbianischen Gewässer verlassen wollen stoppt uns die Küstenwache.As
we are about to leave Colombian waters, we are stopped by the Coast Guard. Die Männer kommen an Bord und durchsuchen 4 Stunden lang
das gesamte Schiff.
The men come on board and search through the entire
vessell for 4 hours. Zusätzlich nehmen sie von
Crew und Passagieren die Fingerabdrücke und überprüfen die Papiere für unsere
Motorräder. In addition, they take the crew and passenger’s fingerprints
and check the papers of our motorcycles. As we have properly cleared the
motorbikes through customs we have no problem at all. Dadurch, dass wir
die Maschinen vorschriftsmäßig beim Zoll ausgeführt haben gibt es keine
Probleme.

beendeter Untersuchung entschuldigt sich der Kommandant für die
Unannehmlichkeiten und bittet uns ein Protokoll zu unterschreiben, welches
besagt, dass die Kontrollen korrekt durchgeführt wurden.After

wishes us a safe journey forward, whereupon we head into the open ocean.
Selbstverständlich machen wir ihm gerne diese Freude und
nehmen endlich Kurs aufs offene Meer.
Die See ist ruhig und in der Dämmerung erscheinen die San Blas Inseln am
Horizont. Wir werfen Anker
und verbringen unsere erste Nacht in Panama, unter Millionen von leuchtenden
Sternen.
The sea is calm, and as dusk settles in, the San Blas
islands appear on our horizon. We find
safe anchorage and spend our first night in Panamanian
waters, accompanied by millions of shining stars.

Das Archipel
der San Blas Islands besteht aus mehr als 300 kleinen Inseln mit schneeweißen
Sandstränden und glasklarem Wasser.The
archipelago of the San Blas Islands consist of more than 300 small islands with
white sandy beaches and crystal clear water. So
muss wohl das Paradies aussehen und wir werden hier einige Tage verbringen!

Das Leben

Im
Morgengrauen erreichen wir Porvenir . Porvenir ist eine kleine dem Festland
vorgelagerte Insel und von hier werden wir mit einer Zille den Rio Carti
hinauffahren.At dawn we reach Porvenir. Porvenir is a small
island just off the mainland. From here we are to travel up the Rio Carti with
a piroque. Wir verabschieden uns von Ludwig und
seiner tollen Crew und verladen die Motorräder in ein kleines Fischerboot.
We say our goodbyes to Ludwig and his able crew and load the bikes into a small
fishing boat.
Langsam
nähern wir uns den Mangrovenwäldern der Küste und steuern in die Flussmündung. Slowly
as we approache the mangrove forests of the coast we steer into the estuary.
Es geht
stromaufwärts durch den Dschungel bis wir schließlich zu einer Furt kommen.The
estuary takes us up river through the jungle until we finally come to a river
crossing. Diese unscheinbare Wasserdurchfahrt ist
ein Verkehrsknotenpunkt, und der Beginn der Piste über die Cordillera San Blas.
This inconspicuous water passage is a main transportation hub, and acts as the

Der Schotter
fährt sich herrlich und gegen Nachmittag erreichen wir die Hauptstrasse.The
gravel surfaces are a welcome change and by afternoon we reach the main road.
Wieder in
der Zivilisation angelangt müssen wir jedoch erst einmal ein Zollbüro finden um
unsere Motorräder legal einzuführen.Back in
civilization again, however, we must first find the customs office, and clear
our motorcycles into the country.
Dadurch,
dass wir mit dem Schiff eingereist sind und dann mehr oder weniger unbemerkt
die Berge überquert haben, stellt der internationale Flughafen die
nächstgelegene Möglichkeit dar. Und das nächste Abenteuer wie sich gleich
herausstellen soll...The fact that we have entered by
sea, river and isolated dirt track leaves our entry as questionable in the
minds of the customs officials at the international airport, the only office.
Kurz gesagt,

Auf jeden
Fall haben wir kurz darauf unsere temporären Importbestätigungen in der Hand
und sind somit legal im Lande.In any case, we obtained our

Unter
Einfuhr steht vielsagend „moto private air “ und es bleibt zu hoffen, dass der
Zoll bei der Ausreise dann kein Privatflugzeug erwartet.On

Etwas einsam
mache ich mich auf den Weg an die Grenze.Feeling
lonely I make my way onward to the border. Die
Ausreise aus Panama nimmt einige Minuten in Anspruch und auch die Einreise nach
Costa Rica verläuft problemlos. My departure from Panama takes a few
minutes to complete, and the entry to Costa Rica runs smoothly.
Einzig der
Zollbeamte von Panama fragt mich wieder ob ich mit dem Flugzeug eingereist bin,
selbstverständlich total unkundig der spanischen Sprache antworte ich mit Yes ,
Yes und er wünscht mir eine gute Reise!Only the

I evade his question by my poor understanding of the Spanish language. I simply
reply with Yes, Yes, and he wishes me a good trip!
Costa Rica
empfängt mich mit Regen und Nebel. Die Panamericana windet sich in die Berge
und führt bis auf über 3000 Meter Seehöhe.Costa Rica
welcomes me with rain and fog. The Panamericana highway winds up into the
mountains and reaches a point more than 3000 meters above sea level. Durch die Nässe fühlt sich die Fahrt an wie eine
spätherbstliche Tour in den heimischen Alpen. The wet weather reminds me
of autumn high mountain motorbike tours in the Austrian alps. Ich hole meine komplette Winter und Regenbekleidung
hervor und komme mir etwas blöd vor.I end up having to use my foul
weather gear, and I feel out of place. Da bin ich

Auch heute
gehen die Regenfälle unvermindert weiter.Even today,
the rains continue unabated. Um die Mittagszeit
sieht es aus wie in der Abenddämmerung und die Flüsse transportieren
schlammiges Hochwasser. By lunch time, the skies are dark grey and it
looks as the night is upon us. The rivers are swollen with muddy waters.
Durch die
heftigen Gewitter der letzten Tage fehlt sogar ein Stück des Pan Amerika
Highways!Due to the fierce storm over the last few days
even parts of the Panamericana highway have been swept away. Ich muss die abgerutschte Stelle über eine
Fußgängerbrücke umfahren.I must traverse the river by means of a rickety
old pedestrian bridge along with many locals also trying to make their way
across the river.

Heute
überquere ich die Grenze nach Nicaragua.Today, I
cross the border into Nicaragua. Die Ausreise aus
Costa Rica verläuft unspektakulär doch am Grenzposten von Nicaragua werde ich
plötzlich von bettelnden Kindern und seltsam wirkenden Charakteren umringt.The
departure from Costa Rica runs without a problem but crossing the border into
Nicaragua, I am swamped by children, beggars and hustlers alike.
Einige geben
sich als Studenten aus, die bei den Formalitäten behilflich sein wollen, andere
sind Geldwechsler oder auch Gehilfen der Touristenpolizei.Some
claim to be students and are only trying to assist with the formalities, some
are money changers and others have the
far fetched story that they are special agents for the tourist police.
Im Prinzip
die übliche Mischung von Opportunisten, Tagelöhnern und Bettlern, wie man sie
an den meisten Grenzübergängen der zweiten und dritten Welt findet.In
principle, the common mixture of opportunists, hobos and beggars, as they are
found at most border crossings of the
second and third world.
Da ich mein
Geld lieber in der Bank wechsle und in der Regel mit einem Grenzübertritt auch
alleine fertig werde schicke ich die Leute einfach weg.Since
I prefer to change my money in the bank and normaly manage border crossings
without assistance, I send the people away, wanting nothing to do with the self
appointed helpers
Dabei werde
ich jedoch Opfer einer lustigen Verwechslung.At this
point, I make the mistake by confusing a real customs official with one of the
hang arounds. This leads to much confusion, on both his part and mine. All he
wanted was to check my panniers and get his paper signed and was insistant on
the dubious Amigo going to beg elsewhere. Einer
der selbsternannten Helfer ist besonders hartnäckig und versucht mir
einzureden, dass der Mann der neben ihm steht ein wichtiges Formular für mich
hat und deshalb mein Gepäck durchsuchen muss!Als ob das was neues wäre...
As if it was a new scam…
Nach einem
Jahr auf der Strasse findet man so einen Schmäh nicht einmal mehr originell und
so bitte ich die zweifelhaften Amigos darum woanders betteln zu gehen und auch
sonst schnell zu verschwinden.After a year on the road one
will not humor even the most original attempts of separarting you and your
possesions.
Was etwas
voreilig war, denn einen Moment später steht der Mann mit dem Formular wieder
neben mir, diesmal allerdings etwas aufgebracht und in Begleitung von 2
bewaffneten Polizisten.My abrupt assessment of the
situation resulted in him returning accompanied by two armed uniformed
officers, wanting to clarify his request in the most obvious way he knew how.
Der
unrasierte Herr ohne Uniform und Waffe ist nicht der Taschendieb für den ich
ihn gehalten haben , sondern ein Beamter der Drogenfahndung der die Aufgabe hat
Gepäckskontrollen durchzuführen.The unshaven
officer without a uniform and a weapon is not the pickpocket I assumed him to
be, but an official of the drug enforcement task unit for Nicaragua with the
task of checking luggage for illegal
substances. Wer kann so was ahnen, auf jeden Fall
erweisen sich die übrigen Formalitäten dann als fast problemlos und eine Stunde
später bin ich in Nicaragua. Who would have guessed that, in any case,

Anders als
in Costa Rica erweisen sich die Highway teilweise als sehr rustikal.Unlike

Vieles in
Nicaragua erinnert mich an meine Fahrt durch Afrika.Much
of Nicaragua reminds me of my trip through Africa. Die Bauern treiben ihr Vieh über die Landstrasse und haben
sich zusätzlich einen weltweit einzigartigen Blödsinn ausgedacht.The
farmers drive their cattle on the main road and have developed a sceme whereby
they anchor their individual cattle to any fixture along the side of the road
to prevent them from escaping while they graze. What may theoretically be sound
on the herdsmans part proves to be a hazard to anybody else wishing to travel
along the road, as it is impossible to judge on which side of the road the
animals are tied.
Damit die
Tiere nicht verloren gehen waren einige so schlau ihre Kühe und Schweine mit
Leinen an die Begrenzungspflöcke an der Strasse zu binden!Wenn man es nicht
gesehen hat, man glaubt es nicht!If you have
not eperienced the chaos this causes, it is almost impossible to believe!
Nach dem
heiteren „Kuhausweichen“ nähere ich mich der Grenze zu Honduras.After
the chaotic cow dodging as if straight out Nintendo, I make my way towards the
border with Honduras.
Durch den
starken Regen fehlen immer wieder Teile der Strasse und ich habe mein Vergnügen
mit den schlammigen Spurrillen der Lastwagen.Due to the
strong rain parts of the road are repeatedly missing and I have a lot of fun on
the rutted muddy track.
Die
Formalitäten verlaufen auf beiden Seiten recht einfach und schnell.The
formalities on both sides are uncomplicated and move relatively fast. Diesmal vergraule ich vorsichtshalber keinen Zollbeamten
und eine Stunde später empfängt mich schon Honduras.This time I am a
little bit more cautious when being approached by an customs official and thus
avoid possible conflicts. One hour later I am in Honduras.

Kaum bin ich
über der Grenze verbessern sich schlagartig die Strassen und zum Glück hört
auch der Regen auf.As soon as I am on the other side of
the border the road condition improves dramatically and the rain clouds begin
to pull off. Sunshine softly warms up the hilly landscape and the ride is
beautiful.

Heute werde
ich etwas von der Hauptroute abweichen und über kleine Nebenstrassen parallel
zur Grenze zu El Salvador durch die Berge in Richtung Guatemala fahren.Today
I decide to leave the main truck route behind me and escape the traffic. There
is a small winding gravel road that goes along the border with El Salvador.
This little side road leads through remote mountain areas and will take me
almost all the way to Guatemala.
Honduras hat
traumhafte Schotterstrassen zu bieten.Durch die Höhenlage besteht die Vegetation
zum Großteil aus Nadelwäldern und die Landschaft erinnert mehr an die
Steiermark als an tropische Breitengrade.Due to the
altitude, the vegetation consists of pine woods to a large part and the
landscape reminds me more of the Austrian mountains than Honduras tropical
latitudes.
Als ich dann
auch noch die rot-weiße Markierung an einem Baum sehe überprüfe ich auf meinem
GPS ob ich nicht versehentlich auf einem heimischen Weitwanderweg gelandet bin!As
I spot the red/white marks on the trees, which are the typical for Austrian
mountain trails, I instinctively check
my GPS to make sure whether I am still in Central America.

Der
Grenzübertritt von Honduras nach Guatemala erweist sich als einfach und
schnell.The border crossing from Honduras to Guatemala
goes simple and fast. Auf der Hauptstrasse nach
Guatemalacity winken mir freudig die Kinder und als ich die Hauptstadt erreiche
wird gerade ein Radrennen ausgetragen. On my way to Guatemala City I’m
celebrated joyfully by children along the road. As I reach the capital city
there happes to be a bicycle race going on. Die
Rennfahrer sind ganz begeistert von meiner beladenen Maschine und posieren mit
mir für ein Foto. The riders are fascinated by my heavy loaded machine
and pose with me for a picture.
Am Abend
komme ich dann zurecht zu einer Schießerei.In the
evening I get right into a shootout. Als ich mir
bei einem Kiosk an der Hauptstrasse eine Cola kaufe fährt plötzlich ein Wagen
vorbei und ein Mann feuert ohne erkennbares Ziel und Grund zwei mal aus dem
Fenster.As I return from my evening run along the main road I’m all
sweaty and decide to treat myself to a coke. I walk to the kiosk just across
the street and as I order my drink I hear a roaring car engine and screeching
tires. The moment I turn around to see what’s going two shots are fired out of
the car’s window with the shootists gun right into my direction. Fortunately
both bullets miss and the driver disappears into the night.
Whereupon the owner of the kiosk pulls his gun himself
and rushes out on the street. As the car is already out of sight there is
nothing for him to shoot at. He shakes his head and mumbles “Locos…
Banditos…” then he puts his gun back
into his trousers and opens a can of beer.
On
my way through Guatemala Mir
ist aufgefallen, dass die Polizei in Guatemala an den Straßenkontrollen immer
mindestens eine Sandsackstellung mit schwerem Maschinengewehr aufgebaut hat,
jetzt verstehe ich auch warum.I noticed that the police mounts
their road blocks with at least one heavy machine gun behind a sandbag
position. I now understand why.

Nach dem
gestrigen Schrecken setze ich meine Reise an die Grenze zu Mexiko fort.After
yesterday's confrontation with the local locos, I decide that the homegrown
bandits are too trigger happy for my taste and ride straight up to the border
with Mexico.
In
order to avoid the trucks on the main crossing, I leave the main road into
Mexico and ride further up north.
On
a little local border crossing I make my attempt and minutes later I’m in
Mexico.
On
the Mexican side I realize that the border crossing probably was a bit too
small. The officials do stamp my passport but there is no customs building to do
the motorcycle import.
After
some talking and a little bit of this and that they let me drive the bike into
Mexico as long as I promiss to ride to the next bigger town, find the
magistrate there and clear customs for the bike.
Sure
enough I’m happy to do that and drive off quickly before someone changes his
mind. Um den vielen Lastwagen am Hauptgrenzübergang
auszuweichen beschließe ich über einen kleinen Grenzposten etwas weiter im
Norden einzureisen.Froh darüber ohne Fahrzeugpapiere einreisen zu können stelle
ich nicht mehr allzu viele Fragen und mache mich auf den Weg.
Durch die
Hilfe einiger freundlicher Lastwagenfahrer finde ich tatsächlich bald das
Zollbüro und bekomme schließlich meine Importpapiere.With
the friendly help of some truck drivers I finally find the customs office and
get my import papers done. Somit bin ich legal in
Mexiko eingereist und auf dem Weg durch das Land der Sierra Madre, der
Sombreros und des Tequilas ! So, I legally entered Mexico and am on the
way through the land of the Sierra Madre, sombreros and tequilas!

Ich werde
Mexiko entlang der Pazifikküste durchfahren.I will cross
Mexico on the road along the Pacific coast. So
komme ich in den Genuss einer fast 3000 Kilometer langen und kurvenreichen
Küstenstrasse und vermeide das Verkehrschaos sowie die stickige Luft rund die
Großstädte. So I’ll be able to enjoy nearly 3000 kilometers of long and
winding coastal road, one of the most scenic ones around the world, and I
certainly will avoid the horrible traffic and polluted air around the big
cities.
Die Strasse
fährt sich ausgezeichnet und pro Tag mache ich ohne weiteres 500 Kilometer. The
road is in excellent condition, and I’m able do a daily 500 kilometers with ease.

course,Halloween wird
natürlich auch in Mexiko gefeiert und an den Strassen stehen gruselige
Gespensterpuppen. Halloween is celebrated in Mexico
as well and creepily ghosts dolls are found in front of the houses. Da hilft nicht einmal der No Fear Aufkleber... Lucky
me, I’ve got a No Fear sticker on my bike...
Den heutigen
Abend verbringe ich in einem kleinen Dorf an der Landstrasse.I
spend tonight in a small village by the road. Als
ich mich ins Restaurant setze umringen mich sofort die Kinder des Besitzers und
holen ihre Englischbücher hervor.As I dine in the local restaurant I’m
immediately surround by a couple of
children who take out their English books. Sie
bitten mich ihnen bei der Hausübung zu helfen und so verbessere ich auch etwas
mein Spanisch.They kindly ask me to help them with their English
homework, a good chance for me to improve my Spanish.
Irgendwie
lernt man ein Land immer am besten kennen wenn man einfach dort stehen bleibt
wo man gerade ist.Somehow it is always the best way to
get to know a country when you stay with the locals. Man muss sich viel mehr mit den Menschen
auseinandersetzen und kommt auch nicht darum herum die Sprache zu lernen.You
have a lot more to deal with the people and you also have to learn some of
their language.
Ich hatte
diesen Eindruck bereits in Kolumbien, jedes Mal wenn wir eine Herberge wählten
die im Reiseführer stand bekamen wir vom Leben der Einheimischen wenig mit.I

travel guide, there were us and the other foreigners speaking our language.

Wenn wir
jedoch irgendwo an der Strasse anhielten und die Nacht dort verbrachten wo die
Lastwagenfahrer und Arbeiter nächtigten, dann erlebten wir das eigentliche Land
im dem wir uns befanden.When ever we just stopped some where
by the road and spent the night with the truck drivers and workers, we saw the
country we were actually in.

Heute fahre
ich ein Stück über die Autobahn.Today I’m
feeling adventurous and decide to have a drive along the famous Mexican toll
highway. Diese ist von herausragender Qualität,
aber wirtschaftlich nicht ganz nachvollziehbar.That one is of
outstanding quality, but economically not quite understandable. Für 100km bezahlt man zwar stolze 9 US Dollar aber damit
ist man in Mexiko auch alleine auf der Strasse!
For 100 kilometers you pay an exobitant amount of 9
U.S. dollars, and you are, given the social and economic situation in Mexico,
the only one on the road!
You are free to do what you want to and can either
turn circles or park in the middle of the lanes and take a picture.
If the unlikely happens and you encounter some traffic
everybody is happy and grateful about the distraction. Man kann auf der Mittellinie zwischen 4 Spuren parken
und gemütlich seine Fotos machen und wenn wirklich einmal wer vorbeikommt freut
man sich direkt über die Abwechslung.

Am heutigen
Österreichischen Nationalfeiertag wird mir bewusst, dass ich schon seit einem
Jahr und 5 Tagen unterwegs bin!Today we celebrate our
independence in Austria and I realise that I have been on the road for one year
and 5 days! Die Strasse führt vorbei an
malerischen Buchten und so bremse ich etwas meine Fahrt. The coastal
road leads past some picturesque bays, and amazed by the view, I decide to slow
down my trip.
Ich finde
ein nettes Hotel am Strand und beschließe mich hier etwas ausruhen.I
find a nice hotel at the beach and have a few days of rest. Seit Panama habe ich nun schon fast 4000 Kilometer
zurückgelegt und eine kleine Pause ist mehr als willkommen.Since I left
Panama, I have now almost done 4000 kilometers and a small break is more than
welcome. Die Landschaft erinnert total an die
Mittelmeerküste und die kleinen Wege zwischen den Buchten eignen sich
hervorragend zum laufen. The landscape reminds totally reminds me of the
Mediterranean coast and the small trails between the bays are made for running. Eine schöne
Abwechslung nach dem üblichen abendlichen Lauftraining entlang der
Hauptstrasse!What a nice diversion after the usual standart of training
runs along the main road!

Den heutigen
Tag verbringe ich am Strand.I spend the day on the beach.
Im Vergleich zum geschäftigen Treiben der
Zentralamerikanischen Großstädte hat man hier den Eindruck die Zeit sei stehen
geblieben. In comparison to the hustle and bustle of the Central
American cities, I have the impression that the time here stood still.
Der
Eisverkäufer schiebt verträumt den Wagen entlang und aus seinem
Kassettenrekorder tönen Weihnachtslieder.The iceman
dreamingly pushes his car along and his tape recorder plays Christmas songs.
Zur Feier
des Tages gönne ich mir eine mexikanische Spezialität.To
celebrate the day, I treat myself to a Mexican speciality. Ananas garniert mit Früchten und Cayennepfeffer.Pineapple
garnished with different fruits and cayenne peppers.
Selbstverständlich
bekomme ich sie mit zwei Strohhalmen und die Mexikaner neben mir finden das
irgendwie lustig.Of course, I get it with two straws
and the Mexicans next to me find it very funny. Da
sitzt ein Gringo am Strand ohne Chica und hat einen Strohhalm zu viel.Quite
understandable, as there is a Gringo sitting on the beach without a Chica but
one straw too many.

Als ich
heute meine Reise fortsetze schwenke ich auf die C15, den Highway der von
Mexikocity bis an die Grenze zu den Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika führt.As
I continue my journey today I turn onto the C15, the highway that goes from
Mexico City all the way up to the border with the United States of America.
Bis zur
Grenzstadt Nogales sind es von hier noch rund 1000 Kilometer und das Klima wird
steppenähnlich.To the border town of Nogales, it
still stands a 1000 kilometers. From here the landscape slowly changes from
subtropical hills into semi arid low lands.
Am
Nachmittag überquere ich den Wendekreis des Krebses und verlasse damit
offiziell die tropischen Regionen der Erde.In the
afternoon, I cross the Tropic of Cancer and so officially leave the tropical regions
of the world.

Heute
verlasse ich die Küstenregion und fahre über die Stadt Hermosillo gegen Norden.Today
I turn away from the coast and continue north to the city of Hermosillo.
From Hermosillo it is less than half a day to the
American border and I don’t feel like going there that fast.
Anstatt die
Grenze zu den Vereinigten Staaten bei Nogales zu überqueren werde ich aber nach
noch einmal in den Westen abbiegen um von Caborca aus die Altarwüste zu
durchqueren.Instead of crossing into the United States in
Nogales I will turn west again and explore the desert of Altar.

In der
Desierto de Altar zieht sich das schmale Band des Highways endlos zum Horizont
und einzig die Kakteen sorgen für etwas Abwechslung.In
the Desierto de Altar, the narrow road stretches to the horizons and disappears
into the distance. Only the cacti provide some distraction as the sun burns
down merciless. In the Altar desert is not much traffic and having a breakdown
could proof to be a serious problem.
Anyway,
crossing a desert is always one of the best things to be done on a motorbike,
and even if it is just for a picture like that. ThisHier finden sich sogar einige besonders große

Gegen Abend
erreiche ich dann die kleine Stadt Puerto Penasco am Golf von Kalifornien.In
the evening I reach the small town of Puerto Penasco at the Gulf of California.
Nach langen
und heißen 500 Tageskilometern freue ich mich über eine kalte Dusche und werde
ein paar Tage hier bleiben.After 500 kilometres of
riding through the heat I decide to call it a day. I can’t wait for a cold
shower and as the hotel there is decent enough I’m going to stay for a couple
of days.

Puerto
Penasco war früher ein kleines Mexikanisches Fischerdorf.Puerto
Penasco once was a small Mexican fishing village. Heute
ist die einstige Idylle einer im Masterplan entstandenen Amerikanischen
Ferienstadt gewichen. Today, the former idyllic spot has changed into a
master planned American holiday village.Überall
werben Immobilienbüros mit speziellen Preisen für Eigentum oder Timeshare und
riesige Apartmentkomplexe erheben sich über die kleine Landzunge. Everywhere,
real estate offices advertise their special price ofers on property or
timeshare models and more huge apartment complexes are getting built along the
bay.
Als ich so
am Strand sitze frage ich mich für wen das alles gebaut wird.As
I sit on the beach and enjoy the warm sun of the afternoon, I wonder for whom
all this is actually being built.Ich bin gerade in
einer Ferienmetropole die einem Bilderbuch entsprungen sein könnte, nur ich bin
fast der einzige hier! I am in the middle of a holiday project right out
of the furure but there is no one else! Where are the residents, where the
investors? Who brings in the life, who creates some athmosphere?
As
I get home in the evening, I still think about the strange and desolate future
city. By coincidence, my neighbor comes along and turns out to be a very nice
guy from Arizona.
He
is already in his 70ies and has spend here the past 10 years.
He
says, there are no people here because of the tight situation on the US labour
market. Nowdays, many people don’t get a chance to take leave for more than a
couple of days.
Womit er

service-oriented businesses in the US are booming, but due to tight
calculations on human resources, they also cause changes in the behaviour of
their own target group.
People that are successful in business desire to lead
a lifestyle that expresses so. But, and there comes the catch, often don’t have
time and personal freedom to do so. Manchmal ist die Welt schon verrückt....Sometimes,
the world is a crazy place ....

Heute geht’s
nach Amerika.Today,Ich werde die
Grenze nach Arizona bei Lukeville überqueren, einem kleinen Grenzübergang
mitten in der Wüste. I will cross the border between Mexico and Arizona
at the town of Lukeville, a small border crossing in the middle of the desert. Ich erreiche den Posten gegen Mittag und erledige meine
Formalitäten zur Ausreise an der Mexikanischen Seite recht zügig.Just
before noon I reach the borderpost and the departure formalities on the Mexican
side run fast.
Die Einreise
in die USA erweist sich dann jedoch etwas anders als erwartet.The
entry into the United States, however, proves to be somewhat different than
expected.
Um
regelkonform einzureisen brauche ich nämlich zwei Versuche!Basically
I need two attempts to enter the US successfully!
Ich fahre in
einer Schlange von amerikanischen Fahrzeugen auf den Grenzbeamten zu und zeige
ihm meinen Pass. Darauf fragt er mich sehr unerwartet ob ich in Mexiko etwas
eingekauft und zu verzollen habe.As I arrive
at the border post there is a queue of American vehicles waiting to be
inspected which are then waived through.
Like everybody else, I drive my bike behind the last
car and wait my turn to roll up to the official. He asks me for my passport,
opens the first page only and gives it back to me.
A little surprised, I ask if everything is in order.
Wherupon he asks me if I have some goods
to declare.
My immediate answer is no and he waives me through
with the other vehicles. Als ich darauf mit nein
antwortet gibt er mir einfach den Pass zurück und winkt mich durch.
Kein
Stempel, keine Fragen, gar nichts!No stamps,
no questions, no nothing! So erstaunt war ich auf
meiner ganzen Reise noch nicht.I have not been that surprised during my
whole journey. Im ersten Schrecken fahre ich zwar
weiter, halte aber nach einem halben Kilometer wieder an und kehre um.
I continue my ride but after about half a kilometer I
turn around and drive back.
Nirgends auf
der Welt kann ich ohne Vermerk im Reisepass in ein Land einreisen und nirgends
käme ich durch eine Polizeikontrolle ohne vollständige Dokumentation der
Papiere.Nowhere in the world have I been able to enter a
country without a stamp in my passport, and it is clear that I would not get
through a police control without complete, legal documentation.
Beim
freiwilligen zweiten Versuch erweist sich die Sache dann so wie vorgesehen.When
voluntarily going for a second attempt, the procedure proves to be as expected.
Ich werde
von den Jungs der Homeland Security interviewt und bekomme die für
Österreichische Staatsbürger vorgesehenen 90 Tage Aufenthalt im Rahmen des Visa
Waiver Programms.I say hi to the guys from Homeland
Security and after successfully passing their interrogation I get my visa
waiver and am allowed to enter the US legally.
Man wünscht
mir freundlich eine gute Reise und damit bin ich legal und offiziell in den
Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika.I’m wished a
safe onward journey, and I am free to ride my bike on the highways of the land
of the free and the brave.
Today I
don’t drive very much further and prefer to spend my first evening watching a
stunning postcard sunset in the Arizona desert.
Heute fahre ich nicht mehr weit und verbringe die Nacht in der Wüste von
Arizona bei einem beeindruckenden Sonnenuntergang..
